The melding together of different media, incorporating new personalized services, is both impressive and overwhelming. Old barriers of time and space are practically eliminated. You can view, hear, or read virtually anything, anywhere, anytime. Definitions that provided separation between Radio, TV, Cable, Newspapers, and Film have gone (or are going) forever... We've blurred the lines between info-tainment, promotainment, and edu-tainment, and now it's hard to separate intrapersonal, interpersonal, and mass communication. These changes represent a seismic shift in the way we view communication”

According to a new report from analyst house Informa Media and Telecoms, the market for mobile content will be worth $50.7bn by 2009. Although currently it's the network operators that are making the money from content services, Informa suggest that it will be the content providers who will be holding the reins in the future, as they focus on selling their content through their own mobile portals.

Why Attend?

At the heart of convergence is content. But in this converging world what does this mean for content producers (musicians, TV producers, filmmakers, journalists, games developers) and those companies that distribute it (music, games and film distributors, digital publishers, mobile networks, and TV channels)?

This one day conference will aim to help delegates discover how best to develop and exploit content opportunities across all the channels that are (and are becoming) available to them. Especially mobile, which will be a key theme running across the whole event. In turn, it will look at some of the innovations which will continue to blur the lines between media channels and the sort of content we’ll produce, and the business models we’ll need to develop it.

In The City London '05 is not only a chance for content producers and distributors to find out what is going on in their specific content arena, but also an opportunity for the creative industries to share their experience of developing content in a convergent world.

Founded in 1992, by Yvette Livesey and Factory Records maverick Anthony Wilson, In The City (ITC) is the meeting point for everyone who matters in the music industry and for everyone to whom music matters.

INTERACTIVE CITY
Interactive City is In The City's sister convention, devoted to digital technologies and the web. The event was initially pioneered as part of In The City, before moving it to a separate event in Glasgow and Cardiff at the turn of the century, and then re-born in Liverpool in 2004. Interactive City moves to Manchester in 2005, and will run alongside In The City music industry conference, at the Midland Crowne Plaza, Manchester from Friday 30th September to Saturday 1st October.
