A student using learning software, systems and ICT tools learns, a computer game player learns, a visitor to a website learns, a contributor to online discussion forums learns, a user of informal learning or leisure media learns. Learning Metrics is likely to become an area of considerable importance to educators, government and people funding development of learning and leisure software and information systems. If these are your business it is time to become aware of learning metrics.

Learning processes, formal and informal, are becoming central to a wide range of human activity - yet our knowledge of how learning happens is very poor. The increasing use of digital systems enables tracking of the activity of users. It must surely be possible to analyse this activity, objectively and subjectively, to determine how engagement, interaction and learning are best promoted and learning achieved.

This event will provide you with answers to the following questions:
  • What are the important things to measure and analyse?
  • What data should we seek to get from the use of digital media?
  • What analysis tools exist or could be created?
  • How could greater understanding of the benefits to users unlock more development and use of learning-oriented systems?
This half-day event arranged jointly with the E.E.P. will consider these and other issues. Speakers from leading companies/organisations involved with formal and informal ICT-for-learning in the UK are confirmed as presenters, including senior representatives of 4Matrix, Desq, the e-Learning Foundation, Intuitive Media, Microsoft, Nesta FutureLab, RMplc, SAM Learning and The Science Museum, with more to follow shortly. The event will cover:
  • the opportunities,
  • the issues,
  • the desirable partnerships,
  • promotion of use of learning metrics,
  • and the pressures that could make use of learning metrics a positive or negative development.
Participants can contribute their views and the event will explore interest in further exploration of this area and ways to continue dialogue and the sharing of insights.
