A Panel Debate on Fashion and New Media

How can fashion designers and SMEs use digital media to grow their businesses? Websites such as Net-a-porter and Figleaves have proven the power of e-tailing, with impressive online sales. The innovative SHOWstudio, a showcase for new design talent, has created a loyal community online. FCUK has tried mobile marketing and DAB (digital audio broadcasting) with moderate success. Thomas Cook is selling holidays through iTV – is it possible that, in future, fashion brands might also be available through the red button?

A year on from the Cass Creatives debate on the future of the fashion industry, we’ve invited commentators from the original panel to join other leading practitioners in reviewing the opportunities and threats posed by new media – what are the latest marketing and distribution technologies? What are the newest ways in which the High Street is being re-invented online? And how is increased personalization now changing the customer-retailer relationship?

Speakers include:

Penny Martin - Editor in Chief, SHOWstudio
Penny is a curator and writer on fashion and photography. Since studying at Glasgow and Manchester Universities and The Royal College of Art, she has lectured internationally. She previously worked as a Curator at The National Museum of Photography, Film & Television and curated the Vogue Laid Out exhibition at The V&A in 2000. Penny has contributed to The Englishness of English Dress (Berg 2002) and The Oxford Companion to the Photograph (Oxford University Press, 2005), to Blueprint, Numéro and Frieze magazines, and The Independent newspaper.

Amanda Zuydervelt - Founder, StyleBible

Eva Pascoe - Head of Websites, Arcadia
As head of Arcadia Group Web sites she has been responsible for the successful launch of Zoom the ISP and on line retailer. Eva first came to prominence when she co-founded the highly successful the Cyberia Group and was responsible for the development of the Cyberia cybercafe. From Holland she came to study Cognitive Psychology at London University and was responsible for interfaces for on-line information systems for bothconsumer and corporate Intranet applications. Eva is a visiting lecturer at Hypermedia MA at Westminster University and is Independent’s columnist covering the Internet. She has been awarded both the Grand Award and the Design Award for her to the Information Superhighway by The Sunday Times and British Telecom. A regular guest on Newsnight and The Midnight Hour, Eva is asked to speak on various topics including Business in the 21st Century.
