Architecture and the design of urban spaces increasingly overlap with the design of digitally-enabled information, products and services. We no longer consider the virtual world to be parallel to the real world but an enhancement to it - and one that can give us new perspectives on physical space.

Architects, urban planners and interaction designers would all benefit from greater mutual understanding. At this event, which takes place during the first London Architecture Biennale (http://www.londonbiennale.org.uk/), we will attempt to further this interaction, with presentations from practitioners and researchers in each area of activity.

Presentation: 3D Virtual London
Dr Andrew Hudson-Smith and Steve Evans from the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) at UCL will talk about their 3D Virtual London tool. This puts the planning system online over the Web, potentially opening it up and allowing people a free and open say about planning decisions. The project is supported by the Mayor of London's office, and will go live in late July.

Presentation: Casson Mann [to be confirmed]
Casson Mann designs museum, workplace, leisure, and domestic interiors, and is actively involved in commissioning interaction design work. The practice was responsible for the Visitor Feedback Installation at the Science Museum's Wellcome Wing (created in collaboration with Durrell Bishop) and the interactive Lifeline being developed for the Churchill Museum at the Cabinet War Rooms in London (working with the Small Design Firm, who presented at our March event). They will discuss commissioning and managing the development of digital projects, and reflect on how they see the evolution of architecture and the digital world.

Presentation: Digital Shelters
Royal College of Art PhD student and dataclimates.com co-founder Pedro Sepúlveda Sandoval, will present his Digital Shelters project, which looks at the way that digital technologies are producing a new landscapes in the urban space, and transgressing the boundaries and protocols of public and private space.

Presentation: Urban Tapestries
Nick West is an information architect and researcher with Proboscis, a London-based creative studio. Urban Tapestries is an investigation of new strategies for 'urban annotation', and combines user-friendly software, mobile hardware, and social research to facilitate sharing knowledge and experience between people.
