NMK in association with PACT present an evening event, looking at how media producers can best protect, control and exploit their creative and intellectual assets in a multi-platform world.
New Media Knowledge in association PACT (Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television, www.pact.co.uk) are holding a comprehensive programme of events aimed at new media and TV practitioners which will examine the complex issues of commercial and creative collaboration in the development, funding and production of original projects across multiple digital platforms. There will be six events in all, running once a month. The series is produced by NMK and interactive content consultant Stephen Jeffery-Poulter.This event, the second of the series, will be exploring issues related to intellectual property rights, often considered to be the battleground of the digital economy. In particular, it will be looking at how media producers can best protect, control and exploit their creative and intellectual assets in a multi-platform world. An Intellectual property expert will outline some of the issues, while digital media professionals will discuss their own strategies for getting the most value out of their creative property.
John Enser, Olswang
John joined Olswang in 1994 and specialises in commercial,
regulatory and competition law matters, in particular those
arising out of broadcasting and digital media. He acts for a
wide range of companies in the internet, broadcasting and music
industries. John has written various articles for legal and
business journals and has contributed chapters to the Oxford
University Press Yearbook of Copyright and Media Law. He is also
a regular conference speaker on online music, internet and
interactive TV issues.
Iain Bennett, Prospect
Iain is an agent for producers, designers and technologists in
the digital and convergent media industries. He was an agent in
the film and television business for over a decade, latterly
with William Morris, before starting his own consultancy on
broadband content in February 2000. Iain is now at Prospect, a
specialist talent management company.
Simon Scott, InterTrust
Simon Scott joined InterTrust in April 2000 as Vice President
for Strategic Markets - Media, bringing with him a unique
understanding of the digital music economy. Before joining
Intertrust, Mr. Scott was co-founder of The iGroup, in which
role he acted as a strategic consultant for BMG Music UK Ltd.
Prior to this, he was responsible for the launch of
www.rise.co.uk - the first UK internet music fanzine. InterTrust
has developed a general-purpose Digital Rights Management (DRM)
platform which allows content creators to profit directly from
the commerce opportunities offered in emerging digital
markets.
