The original features of allaboutgiving.org, givenow.org and efundraising.org have been combined with a host of new and enhanced online tools including a daily news feed offering the latest updates on issues affecting donors and charities.

An improved search engine combines the Charity Commission's register of around 167,000 charities, with data provided by charities themselves through CAF's Efundraising service.

Efundraising is free and allows charities to add a profile, search keywords, their logo, website address and news of their current appeals and campaigns. Charities can even track donations made through the site, access details of CAF's banking and investment services, and find out more about CAF's range of funding and fundraising solutions.

End-to-end management of fundraising

The new website also enables individuals to manage every aspect of their charitable giving in one place. Donors can open a CAF Charity Account online, view interactive account statements and compile a list of favourite charities for easy regular donations. They can make credit and debit card donations or give via their Charity Account or Trust, search out local volunteering opportunities and access the most comprehensive list of UK charities.

Companies can use the new site to find out more about investing in their communities, open a CAF Company Account, get ideas on employee engagement, and discover how to set up a Give As You Earn scheme.

To manage the new technical requirements of the site CAF have introduced a content management system from Immediacy, which was chosen based on its proven reliability and the ease with which it integrated with CAF's existing .NET framework, its automatic accessibility compliance checker and because it offered excellent value for money.

Building long-term relationships with donors

According to Nick Jackson, Online Communications Manager at CAF: "One of the most important things that Immediacy gives us is high levels of usability and functionality out of the box, so we are now in a better position than ever to deliver informed, up-to-date information to donors and charities."

CAF worked closely with web agency Reading Room in the initial research, design and implementation of the new site. Margaret Manning, Reading Room CEO said: "Reading Room used its charity heritage to devise a range of effective communication tools to enable CAF donors to be in complete control of their giving.

"An enhanced user experience ensures that charities are able to make best use of technology to benefit fundraising efforts," Manning continued, "making the most of the donations that they get. This new and innovative system of online giving ensures that people are able to build long-term relationships with the charities they support".

In addition to the services offered to both donors and charities, the newly designed site provides a comprehensive showcase for CAF's own activities. It features all the latest news from CAF, information about the impact it makes through its research and policy work, and even allows visitors to book a place online at one of its extensive programme of events and workshops.
