BBC jam is a brand new learning service for children designed
to inspire them to explore, learn and create. It will give all
5-16 year olds in the UK free access to a broadband learning
experience that complements and reinforces their classroom
activity but puts them in charge of what, when, where and how
they want to learn. The new service will launch its first range
of content in January 2006.
Cimex’s work will focus on Physical Education and SEN Science
for blind users, using a combination of media and interactivity
to motivate and enable learners to take ownership of their own
education experience, no matter what their ability.
Inspiring one-to-one in the online learning space
Ian Haynes, director of learning at Cimex says “What is
particularly exciting about the opportunity to develop the PE
and SEN Science resource is it just hasn’t been tackled in this
way before so we are breaking new ground. A key requisite of the
Corporation’s new service was for it to be innovative and
distinctive from existing materials in the marketplace”
“Traditionally, educational interactive learning content is
developed to support teachers in the classroom,” said Haynes.
“However, the BBC jam content will be designed to motivate and
inspire the individual learner.”
Cimex was chosen because of its extensive experience in
elearning particularly in subjects that are difficult to take
online, combined with its impressive track record in
accessibility.
