Nokia announced last week its search for the world¹s best short film in partnership with online video sharing site Vimeo®.

Budding filmmakers will be tasked to create a short film on the Nokia N8 smartphone for the chance to win a prize of 10,000 USD and a screening at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Aspiring directors will be able to submit their idea for a short film at http://www.vimeo.com/nokia on a subject of their choice. Following a rigorous selection by a panel of judges, eight of the best submissions will be shortlisted for the semi-finals and their creators awarded a budget of 5,000 USD and two Nokia N8 smartphones to make their film. The winning film will be chosen by the panel of judges and will be screened at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June 2011.

The Nokia N8 introduces HD-quality video recording (with a stabilizing function to help reduce camera shake) and film editing software so consumers can produce the blockbusters they want straight from the palm of their hand. The device also has a microphone on both the front and the back of the handset for a greater sense of the original ambient environment and Dolby® Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound.
