The Apprenticeship, which has been developed by Skillset, is an exciting new way for people to find their way into the world of the Creative Media. The Apprenticeship will broaden access to the industry, while teaching new entrants to the industry the technical and creative skills needed to build a career in line with the needs of their employer.

Channel 4 is offering two 18-month Apprenticeships structured around developing interactive skills for the build-up to, and coverage of, the 2012 Paralympics. Placements will be with Independent Production Company IMG Sport and Channel 4’s Paralympic Team. Apprentices will earn a basic wage through their work in the industry, combined with training provided by Creative Process in London.

Channel 4’s head of learning and 4Talent, Jo Taylor, said: "Channel 4’s Apprenticeship programme enhances our already strong and innovative approach to new talent development. Ensuring that people understand and have opportunities to experience our exciting industry while learning new skills is fundamental to not only C4 but the creative economy as a whole.

“In the current economic environment it is more important than ever to invest in new talent training, which is why I am thrilled to be able to launch our apprenticeship programme in collaboration with Skillset."

Skillset’s chief executive, Dinah Caine, said: “This Skillset Apprenticeship will establish a reliable route for young people from diverse backgrounds to enter the Creative Media Industries. Not only will these apprentices be learning the most relevant and up-to-date skills in their chosen roles, they will also be assisting in the growth of businesses, forging valuable networks within the industry, and earning a wage while they do it.” Applications for the Channel 4 Apprenticeship opened on Monday, 20 December.
