Creative agency sees 53,000 theme downloads a day and announces exciting new case venture. By Dan Price.

By Dan Price

Mobstar Media, one of the world’s leading creative mobile content, advertising and marketing organisations, announced in the beginning of November the success the company has achieved with its “themes” for BlackBerry® smartphones, which are available for download on BlackBerry App World™. The company produces, distributes and promotes mobile applications, user interface themes, mobile games, wallpapers, screensavers, mobisodes, mobile websites.

As part of its global distribution network, Mobstar’s original mobile content library produces over a million downloads a month. In recent months, the Brighton, UK-based company has seen particularly strong response to its themes for BlackBerry smartphones, which are now generating 53,000 downloads a day.

We wanted to develop for BlackBerry smartphones as we could see the potential in creating themes for such a popular device. We certainly haven’t been disappointed - since March we have had over 7 million themes downloaded through BlackBerry App World, and are rarely out of the top 20, averaging 53,000 downloads a day.

As a creative media company, we are focused on popular culture and delivering what our customers want. Since we build our themes around both the zeitgeist and calendar events that will garner a lot of attention, we see results very quickly. For example, within four days of uploading our Sea Storm and Sparkling Rose themes to BlackBerry App World in March this year, we witnessed 50,000 downloads. By the end of a month we had hit 500,000 downloads for just those two themes alone.

The launch of the new operating system, BlackBerry® 6, and the introduction of new pricing models on BlackBerry App World are an opportunity for Mobstar to further extend its business on BlackBerry smartphones. We like to be ahead of the game when it comes to personal mobile technology and have a range of highly successful themes that have seen phenomenal success. For example, we have started to develop an interactive element to the themes, with stop/start animations, and will be looking to develop these for the new BlackBerry 6 OS. We’re currently speaking with major brands and broadcasters like The Cartoon Network in order to develop BlackBerry themes for them too.

Mobstar’s success in the theme business for BlackBerry smartphones has also inspired a new business venture. Our customers love personalising their screens with our themes and so we thought ‘Why stop there?’ As a result, we’ve just launched Mobstar Cases – an online case store for BlackBerry® Bold™ and BlackBerry® Curve™ models, which allows customers to completely personalise their handset with Mobstar’s amazing, original designs.
