RemixRingTones opens a new revenue stream for artists and music labels as music tracks get another lease of life as customised ringtones. Launched on 24 January 2006, it enables mobile users to remix any track in Digimpro’s .di format and send it to their mobile phones as a personalised ringtone.

“RemixRingTones holds tremendous potential for artists, songwriters, record labels and music publishers since they allow the user to become involved in a co-creation process,” said Rupert Evans, CEO, Digimpro. “This will lead to hundreds of new, customised and personal versions of a song becoming available for commercial transactions such as ringtones, with revenues still attributed to the original creators.”

Revenue-share model

The revenue from each remixed ringtone downloaded onto a mobile phone is shared between Digimpro and the original copyright holders.

“Not only does this create an entirely new revenue potential for each track, but also promotes the artist’s brand in an entirely new way while making the music experience much richer," continued Evans.

Mobile users can mix their ringtone tracks directly from eCards that feature Digimpro’s diOnline Player. The remixed tracks are transformed - on the fly - into mobile ringtones using Kodime’s STARtxt service and are ready for user download within seconds.

Speaking at Midem, Kodime’s Managing Director Niko Köpke said: “We are delighted to enable the mobile component of RemixRingTones through our STARtxt platform. It is a perfect fit both for our technology and our mission to enhance consumer choice and quality in mobile music.”

Mixing & remixing capabilties

RemixRingTones are available for mobile phones on all major European and international mobile networks. The standard SMS and data transfer rates apply for downloading a track onto a mobile.

Digimpro's RemixRingTones includes a patented ‘improvise button’, which creates a new unique version of the track. Mobile users can also remix their tracks manually. The technology is available for both Mac and Windows platforms.

Music tracks in Digimpro’s interactive music .di format can be downloaded at www.digimpro.com. An eCard featuring RemixRingTones is available at:
