A large GP practice in Suffolk has set up a venture to help other practices get online. The new company, EasyGP Limited, offers a fixed cost subscription service which enables overstretched doctors to set up a professionally designed website with the minimum of effort.
Working with the web design company ZebraWeb, the Stowhealth Practice of Stowmarket, Suffolk, has created a ready-to-go website package based on its own successful web presence. The package produces a site that can be tailored to the individual needs of a particular practice and includes a suite of patient interaction tools including online repeat prescription ordering and online appointments.
Once a practice signs up to the service, they receive a live site already populated with basic pages. The package comes with a content management system (CMS) which allows the site owner to log on and edit the content any time they want. Using the CMS, the practice can add as many pages as it desires and has complete control over all site layout features such as menus, colours and logos. It is also possible to set up a sponsorship banner on the site via the CMS. The service is already being used by more than twenty GP practices.
Costing £575 a year, the EasyGP subscription includes access to a full telephone support service and provides site hosting, backup and domain registration. Also provided under the subscription is an extensive library of general health advice pages which practices can include in their own site.
“We believe the future for general practice lies in having better informed patients and allowing them more direct access to services,” says Dr Simon Rudland of Stowhealth.
He adds: “A good practice website plays an important part in the process and we want to spread the word and help others to implement new ways of providing healthcare in times when UK GP services are facing increasing demands on their resources."
