The BIG Idea business competition was part of the Think BIG!
campaign, which was launched by BISW in November 2005 to make
entrepreneurs and existing small to medium sized enterprises
aware of the resources available at the region's business
innovation and growth facilities. There were four regional
winners across the South West, including Swindon, and one
overall winner for the whole region. www.bisw.co.uk/
Telescratch, based at the Swindon Innovation Centre, was the
Swindon area winner of the BIG Idea Business competition,
sponsored by the Swindon Advertiser and organised by Business
Incubation South West. The competition attracted more than 50
entries from a range of small to medium sized companies and
entrepreneurs throughout the South West. All faced the challenge
of submitting an outline of their business plans before pitching
their ideas to a panel comprising some of the region's most
successful entrepreneurs in their respective sectors.
"The whole company is very excited about the regional
recognition it has received," said Phil Davies, a Director
at Telescratch. "Being named a winner validates our
enthusiasm in our technology and also reflects the sheer hard
work and determination amongst the Telescratch team."
Scratch & reveal concept acclaimed
Telescratch won the award for its unique scratch card emulation
technology, which brings the concept of "scratch and
reveal" to mobile phones and enables brands and content
owners, as well as lottery and competition companies, to design
and deliver exciting new campaigns. As the winner of the BIG
Idea Award for Swindon, Telescratch receives a business services
package worth thousands of pounds to support its growth.
The competition's judges assessed each business idea and
identified key business attributes, including customer
proposition, market potential and future vision.
"Telescratch demonstrated high growth potential on the
basis of fundamental strengths such as global market potential
and a sound customer value proposition," said Ed Preedy,
Manager of Business Incubation South West. "Small
businesses are the lifeblood of the regional economy, and we
wish Telescratch every success in its future
development."
Telescratch's interactive SSR-based campaigns can be
supported by media advertising, direct mail or SMS text based
messaging, all of which combine to engage the customer's
attention. This active and ongoing engagement enables brand and
content owners to use the application for customer acquisition,
data capture, and future communications.
Regional hub for etrepreneurial companies
Telescratch has already established relationships with leading
content owners, brand management agencies, and mobile telephone
operators. The application is Java-based and is compatible with
a significant number of handsets currently used in the UK and
around the world.
