This impending launch of Europe’s first secure and legal peer-to-peer Video-on-Demand (VoD) system marks a step forward on a few key fronts.

The VOD system will allow subscribers to watch movies and sport any time they choose via a broadband Internet connection, without having to wait for movie/programme or snippet start times.

Users will finally have the power to download on-demand movies or sports highlights to their desktop and watch the content directly on their PC or through their television screens. ioko has partnered with Kontiki - Europe's first completely untainted secure peer-to-peer infrastructure provider - to implement video-on-demand (VOD) platforms which are fast, secure and much more cost effective for the distribution of digital content.

P2P grid structure eliminates bottlenecks

Kontiki, an industry leader in commercial Grid Delivery technology headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, has been working with ioko to roll out this offering which is designed to implement VoD broadband television (TV) platforms throughout Europe.

This secure peer-to peer network, termed the Grid system, means that viewers can now experience fast, uninterrupted downloads as well as full content viewing. In addition, it eliminates piracy issues and protects content owners’ copyright.

Until now, delivering quality digital video material to viewers has been a costly and often complicated process. The typical centralised infrastructure approach makes it difficult to scale as customer volumes grow. Ioko’s partnership with Kontiki provides viewers with a more seamless experience and allows broadcasters to operate on a more cost effective, scalable basis.

Inbuilt scalability as volumes & demand increase

Broadcasters and content companies no longer need to be concerned with data volumes, as the peer-to-peer Grid system overcomes network gridlocks caused by conventional VoD offerings. This allows digital content to be available to a large volume of audiences online, all at once.

ioko and Kontiki will be working together to deliver tailored services to design, develop and manage dynamic Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and VoD solutions for a broad spectrum of media companies, varying in size.

More generally, ioko’s partnerships with major broadcasters such as Sky denote a change in the way the mainstream broadcasters offer and deliver content to their viewers in the new high-definition TV space.

About ioko:
ioko was established in 1996 to help commercial organisations apply cutting-edge technologies to create new, but practical, business solutions and applications. For over ten years ioko has been working very successfully with some of Europe’s best known companies, applying its technical knowledge and skills to design, build and run high quality IT systems. ioko has worked with media companies since its inception, mainly as a provider of systems integration services, but also providing managed services for customers like Sky. ioko has worked with Sky for the last five years, managing the company’s entire Internet platform including all web sites, video streaming services and customer portals. www.ioko.com/

About Kontiki:
Kontiki provides competitive advantage to its customers by increasing the value of their existing network and computing infrastructure for corporate video communications. Kontiki's patent-pending Grid Delivery Technology taps the unused resources of networked PCs and servers, allowing enterprises to deliver high quality corporate video, corporate training, and all digital media content faster and at a fraction of the cost of alternative solutions. Additionally, the grid allows every user, regardless of location or connection speed, to receive content in the background without any degradation of system performance. Kontiki fundamentally changes the economics of large file delivery, while dramatically improving video communications effectiveness and reach. www.kontiki.com/
