We would like to welcome everyone to our new, re-launched website. It's been a long-time coming (our old site was built last century), but we hope you'll find that it's been worth the wait.
New and improved features include:
NMK has been running for six years now, and in that time we've developed a lot of useful content for people working in the digital media. This new site makes it easier for you to find the knowledge you need, with better organisation of articles and reports, 'related content' links, and a more sophisticated search engine.
Seminars and courses remain central to what we do, and the new site makes it easier for you to find out what's coming up, with our entire programme featured on one calendar page. We've even dragged ourselves into the 21st Century and introduced secure online credit card bookings.
The new site reflects NMK's focus on networking and community by allowing users to create their own personal profiles when they register on the site. Registration is entirely free, and It's up to you how much information you choose to provide and display. Once registered, you can manage your newsletter subscriptions, contribute content, add comments to articles and events, and advertise your freelance skills. Other users can search the member database to find out about you and your company.
If you ever work freelance or as an independent consultant, you can highlight your skills and advertise your availability on the site. Potential employers can then find out about you via the site's freelance search function. You can add freelance information to your personal profile by editing your profile after you register on the site.
If you're a registered user, you can add comments below the articles (and selected events and courses) that you view on the site. In doing so, you can ask questions, add further information, or challenge the viewpoints expressed in our features and reports. (Constructive criticism only, though, please!)
We're not the experts – you are. NMK has always believed in providing a platform to allow new media people to discuss the issues of the day with their peers. That's why this new site allows any registered user to submit articles, reports, step-by-step guides, rants, think-pieces, or any other content they think is appropriate, directly to the site.
To submit content, register on the site, sign-in and find the section of the site where you would like your content to appear. Next, click the 'Add An Article' link, which you'll find on topic homepages and at the top of any existing article. At present, you have to include your own HTML tags to format your article, but we'll be introducing a more user-friendly WYSIWYG interface soon. After submission, your content goes to the NMK team, who approve it for publication. Check out our content guidelines for further details.
Most content-driven sites have their own search engine, but we're rather proud of ours. It's an incremental search, which means that there's no 'submit' button – just type in what you want to find, pause, and the results appear. To refine your results, just keep typing more search terms. You can also restrict your search to articles, events, members or freelancers.
Our old site, designed and built by TMG back in '99, has served us well. It's still up and running (and enjoying its semi-retirement) at www.nmkadapt.co.uk.
The development of this site is an ongoing process, and we will be adding some more functionality to the website in due course. Since the site is aimed at a very well informed audience, we'd be really interested in your feedback and ideas, and would be grateful if you could add your comments below. Many thanks.
